So, who is Alaw?

A passionately welsh, adventurous minimalist. (I’m fluent in welsh, croeso i fy mhortffolio!)

I’m a creative-problem solver, and a multi-disciplinary creative I thrive on challenges and embrace opportunities to push boundaries. I bring a diverse skill set to the table. With expertise in photography, graphic design and creative direction, I have a keen eye for visual story-telling and a knack for brining ideas to life.

I grew up on a farm in North Wales instilled my strong work ethic and a fearlessness when it comes to getting my hands dirty and never shying away from a challenge. I’ve always aimed to seek out opportunities for myself as growing up in a small, rural town they were few and far between. I was lucky that my local college offered an incredible UAL art and design course, which I completed and followed with a foundation in art and design, before receiving my offer from Nottingham Trent University to study a BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion degree.

While I was in college I focused on graphic design and won a couple of competitions along the way, The first competition involved designing the poster for the college's art department's end-of-year exhibition. The poster was displayed all over the county, with local MP’s and influential people attending the private viewing. The second competition centred around creating new packaging for the college's agriculture branch's latest addition - their new sausages.

Poster for an art and design exhibition titled 'ADD GOSFA EXHIBITION' featuring Adran Celf a Dylunio, held at Safle Dolgelau Site from June 7 to 14, 2019, in Mehefin. The poster includes a stylized illustration of a head outline with a metal wire sculpture inside and details about the event in Welsh and English, including contact information and a designer credit.

In my first summer at university, I was luck enough to receive a scholarship to study at a Summer school at Humber College in Toronto. I decided to study Intercultural communication for the 3 weeks I was there as I have a deep fascination with people, places and culture and love nothing more than traveling and meeting new people. I left for the summer school not knowing anyone, and came back with a group of amazing friends and connections across the world! (I also conquered my fear of heights!)

Last summer I had the opportunity to intern for Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW), and their sister company Global Fashion Collective (GFC) and Vancouver Kids Fashion Week (VKFW) in Vancouver. At 21, I spent almost 2 months living alone in Vancouver, a sentence 11 year old me would never believe!

I experienced a huge range of work while I was there, from developing and implementing their LinkedIn strategy, that they still use today, that continues to grow their engagement and following, to photographing model headshots at castings and steaming clothes for the VKFW magazine cover shoot. My main responsibility was RSVP coordinator for GFC and LinkedIn content creator for VFW and VKFW. As RSVP coordinator I was responsible for invites to global shows across the 5 fashion capitals, from drafting and sending the invites to corresponding with press, agents and influencers. I was also briefly in charge of the Van Kids instagram account, creating, scheduling and posting content, alongside my LinkedIn posting and RSVP coordinating.
